Out of all Jean’s parliamentary committees she spends the most time working on the Employment and Social Affairs Committee.

The Employment and Social Affairs Committee is responsible for:

• Employment Policy including measures to combat unemployment, job creation and the Employment Committee.
• The social dimension and the labour market in the information society
• The European Social Fund
• Social Policy in particular;
  o Protection of living and working conditions, including the working environment, in  order to protect the health and safety of workers
  o Information and consultation of workers’ and employers’ interests
  o Wages and pensions policy
  o Social security and welfare protection
  o Social exclusion and social cohesion
  o Employment and conditions for legal residents from third countries
  o Housing policy and promotion of low-cost housing schemes.
