Jean with Cluster Bomb Campaigner in Westminster
LONDON'S Green Party Euro-MP Jean Lambert will join hundreds of demonstrators unleashing an attack of paper 'cluster bombs' on the capital tomorrow (Friday, July 11th) outside the Houses of Parliament.
The demonstration aims to raise awareness of the more than 10,000 'cluster bombs' littering the streets of Iraq following the war and the thousands of civilian deaths they are likely to cause.
"War is bad enough without its explosive remnants lingering on into peace time," said Mrs Lambert.
"The use of cluster bombs shows clearly the disregard for Iraqis' long-term security shown by Blair and Bush. Hundreds or even thousands of civilians are likely to be killed by unexploded ordnance in Iraq, many of them children mistaking the bombs for brightly coloured toys or scavenging for valuable scrap metal.
"The Government must pick up the deadly litter it has left behind in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, and put an immediate stop to the trade and future use of these indiscriminate weapons of mass destruction."
