LONDON GREEN MEP TO JOIN 500,000 IN MARCH AGAINST WAR

LONDON'S Green Euro-MP Jean Lambert is to join an expected 500,000 anti-war demonstrators on Saturday at what organizers expect to be the biggest political rally since the Second World War.

The rally, which will follow two marches through central London expected to attract more than 500,000 demonstrators, takes place in Hyde Park throughout the afternoon and is due to finish at 5.30pm. The marches set off from Embankment and Gower Street at 12.30 and will join at Piccadilly Circus before heading to the Hyde Park rally, where speakers will include fellow Green MEP Caroline Lucas and the Rev Jesse Jackson.

"Any war will be illegal, immoral and counter-productive. War will not be a solution to the threat posed to global peace and security, nor to the desperate humanitarian needs of the Iraqi people," said Mrs Lambert.

"It will be just a short-term distraction from the real job of helping the Iraqi people throw off the yoke of dictatorship and rebuilding the political structures necessary to ensure a durable peace and meeting the basic needs of the ordinary men, women and children of Iraq."
