London's Green MEP Jean Lambert will witness Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) in action when she visits Bovince Ltd, a Walthamstow-based printing firm, on Monday (October 27).
Mrs Lambert, a Walthamstow resident, is visiting the award-winning printers as part of a series of visits to environmentally-focused organizations across London.
Bovince is a family-run business with a strong reputation as an ethical company. Printing is potentially an 'environmentally-damaging' industry, but Bovince has differentiated itself from competitors by investing in technologies that limit its impact on the environment.
Bovince's reputation has created new business opportunities with organisations who select supplies on green performance, as well as cost and quality.
Mrs Lambert said: "CSR is a relatively new issue, and many small companies are still daunted by the responsibility that comes with it - either because they don't know where to start or because they fear being overwhelmed. But Bovince is an excellent example of how CSR makes serious business sense."
The company's new projection system, for example, bypasses the traditional 'film stage' when producing large posters, and therefore reduces chemical use and waste. It has also saved the company around £1200 (20%) on a typical large billboard.
As well as limiting the environmental impact of its operations, Bovince takes a keen interest in the regeneration, development and education of the local community.
Mrs Lambert will tour the company's facilities, learn more about the projects being undertaken, and engage in an open discussion about CSR issues.
"Issues of social responsibility, the environment and sustainability are of great importance to a growing number of London's small businesses who are realising that size really doesn't matter. All companies can give something to the community and at the same time strengthen their own business," Mrs Lambert said.
