Jean Lambert has given her backing to the organizers of this summer’s Climate Camp, currently taking place in Blackheath near Greenwich. London’s Green MEP will be visiting the camp on Saturday afternoon to meet with the climate protesters and explore the activities taking place.
Commenting on the protest, she said:
“Many people are very worried about the current and future impacts of climate change and are angry and frustrated by the lack of concerted political action to deal with this looming crisis.
“The people at Climate Camp are aiming to show that another way of life is possible, one that is not so detrimental to our planet and humankind. This is a peaceful movement with a positive message and I am happy to lend my full support to their cause.
“I hope that people from across London will go along to the camp to learn about climate change and find out what they can do to ensure critical action to drastically reduce our carbon emissions. We have a small window of opportunity in the next few years to set ourselves on a new course or face disaster. I encourage everyone to get involved.”
Molly Scott Cato, the Green Party’s economics spokesperson, will be speaking on an economics panel on Friday 28th August at the camp and on Saturday afternoon, Caroline Lucas, the Green Party Leader, will be taking part in a workshop exploring growth and wellbeing issues.
