Jean nominated as Greens/EFA candidate for European Parliament Presidency

The Greens/EFA group today nominated Jean as their candidate for the presidency of the European Parliament.

 Commenting on the result, Jean  said:“I am honoured to have the support of the Greens/EFA group to stand as their candidate for the presidency of the European Parliament.

 “This election comes at a crucial moment, both for our parliament and for the entire European Union, and it is crucial that we have a candidate that will represent and defend the core values of the EU.

 “As a long-standing Member of the European Parliament, I hope to be able to reach out across the political spectrum and look forward to what I hope will be a positive and engaging campaign.”

Note: The President of the European Parliament presides over the debates and activities of the European Parliament. He or she also represents the Parliament within the EU and internationally. The president’s signature is required for enacting most EU laws and the EU budget.

Presidents serve two-and-a-half-year terms, normally divided between the two major political parties, which are curently the EPP Group and the S&D Group
