GMOs are an issue on which the Greens have been fighting hard for many years. The Greens believe that GMOs could have a long term harmful effect on the environment and human health as it has not been proven otherwise, a precautionary approach should be taken.<\/p>\n
When Jean Lambert votes on proposals for European legislation on GMOs she does so in line with Green Party principles on the subject which include to;<\/p>\n
The Greens believe that consumers have a right to know what they are buying and eating, especially when it concerns products which are genetically modified or contain genetically modified ingredients. In 2001, the European Commission produced two proposals for legislation to guarantee proper labelling of GMO products. The European Parliament adopted opinions (reports) on these proposals in July 2002.<\/p>\n
