{"id":788,"date":"2013-11-15T11:39:22","date_gmt":"2013-11-15T11:39:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jeanlambertmep.org.uk\/?page_id=788"},"modified":"2014-12-11T10:55:42","modified_gmt":"2014-12-11T10:55:42","slug":"health-and-care","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jeanlambertmep.org.uk\/jeans-issues\/jobs-economy-public-services\/health-and-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Health and Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Health Policy Priorities<\/h2>\n<p>In the video below Jean summarises her priorities for health over the next five years (2014-2019)<br \/>\nThis includes:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Working to stop EU practices that could damage health services including the threat from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greens-efa.eu\/transatlantic-trade-and-investment-partnership-10880.html\">Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Ensuring the money that&#8217;s available is spent to improve health services in countries where there are difficulties<\/li>\n<li>In the review of the EU&#8217;s growth strategy, <a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/europe2020\/index_en.htm\">EU2020<\/a>, making sure there is a really strong health dimension, particularly in relation to tackling poverty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Tkqau-KUr7Q\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;the EU really needs to check what it&#8217;s doing and stop practices that damage health services &#8211; so the Troika policies for example. The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is also a threat.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Access to Care in a Time of Crisis<\/h2>\n<p>In 2013 the European Parliament adopted a raft of proposals put forward in Jean&#8217;s own-initiative report examining access to care services across the EU. The report had a particular focus on the impact of cuts and austerity measures, and proposals to make sure care for vulnerable groups is not a victim of the cuts.<\/p>\n<p>Read the press release <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jeanlambertmep.org.uk\/2013\/07\/08\/meps-back-green-call-for-eu-wide-carers-leave-law\/\">about the report here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The full report can be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jeanlambertmep.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/document.pdf\">downloaded here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Universal Care Provision<\/h2>\n<p>Jean believes all older people should have their social care needs paid for by general taxation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;After all, we&#8217;ve all got to pay for care: whether we do it individually or as a society. The only question is how fair we want to be.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She organised a conference to discuss some of the issues.
