More and more of us are spending more of our lives on the Internet, especially using email and smartphones: for many, the online world is the primary way in which they access services, share and access cultural resources – and communicate with one another.<\/p>\n
Yet our human rights and freedoms on-line are poorly protected, especially at an international level.<\/p>\n
Jean and other Green MEPs have been at the centre of campaigns to protect our ‘digital rights’ and on-line privacy, especially in relation to agreements between the US and EU over data sharing and retention.<\/p>\n
She helped force the EU to abandon controversial plans for ACTA – the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement – an international treaty whose opponents included the Open Rights Group and Privacy International.<\/p>\n
