Today more than 26,000 people joined the annual Pride parade through central London. [1]<\/p>\n
Jean Lambert, London’s Green MEP and member of the European Parliament’s Intergroup on LGBT rights<\/strong><\/span>, said:<\/p>\n \u200b”\u200bThe Pride parade has become an integral part of London\u2019s cultural and political landscape. Every year, it\u2019s inspiring to see \u200bthousands of people turn out to celebrate our diversity and make a stand against prejudice.<\/em><\/p>\n This year\u2019s Pride event marks an important milestone. It\u2019s hard to believe that, until 50 years ago, homosexuality was considered a crime in England and Wales. Since then, \u200bwe’ve made immense progress. However, the sad truth is that there\u2019s still \u200bplenty of work to be done to push for equality.<\/em><\/p>\n In coming years, I\u2019ll be working hard to give the LGBT+ community a voice in the European Parliament \u2013 seeking to protect the rights of \u200bevery LGBT+ individual, not only in London but across the globe.\u200b”\u200b<\/em><\/p>\n
