Green MEP Backs Real Nappy Week

As the 11th, and possibly the last ever, Real Nappy Week takes place this week (11th – 18th March) London’s Green MEP Jean Lambert, has given her support to the campaign which has helped Real Nappies enter the mainstream reducing the damaging environmental impact disposable nappies have.

Jean today praised the growth of Real Nappy Week and the Women’s Environmental Network which co-ordinates the week and commented; “It is great to see that more and more parents have chosen to use reusable nappies for their children.  Awareness of the campaign and the week in particular has increased dramatically since it started eleven years ago.

“Whilst we still don’t know how long it takes for the plastic in nappies to decompose the wide range of Real Nappies, covering a variety of designs, styles, colours and fabrics including organic, waterproof and breathable materials have become the ultimate eco and economic choice.

“Eight million nappies are thrown away everyday in the UK with 90% ending up festering in landfill but Real Nappies can be used time and time again.  As well as reducing the amount of household waste going to landfill the nappies are cost effective at almost £500 cheaper per baby than disposables.  I now hope that organisations supporting Real Nappy Week will continue to promote the benefits and usage of the nappies long into the future.”
