Jean Lambert, the Green MEP for London, will join thousands of people marching against racism, fascism and Islamophobia at a national demonstration in central London on Saturday [1].
The demonstration has been organised by Unite Against Fascism [2] and is backed by the TUC, the Muslim Council of Britain and a range of trade union leaders, faith and community groups.
Jean, who will be opening speaker at the demonstration at 12.30pm, said: “Through systematic campaigns, far-right organisations are instilling a sense of fear based on racism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, homophobia and the vilification of refugees and asylum seekers.
“They distort the truth and lie to the public. We cannot and should not sit idly by and allow such bigoted beliefs to be spouted unchallenged. We need to urgently come together to unite against such abhorrent attitudes and challenge the lies. That is why the Green Party is supporting this demonstration. This country has social problems that need to be fixed for the benefit of all.”
