Green MEP for London Jean Lambert has called for the Strasbourg building that houses the plenary session of the European Parliament every month to be used instead for people fleeing war and oppression. Jean explained:

 
‘It’s practical and an immediate solution. We have long said that a second seat is wasteful both economically and environmentally so let’s put a perfectly well equipped building that stands empty for over 300 days a year to good use.

 
‘Parliamentarians can have a single seat which is only sensible, and many desperate people can have access to shelter to help relieve the crisis that they are facing. Let’s show that we are serious about immediate action.’
